Renault Duster ADAS level 2 and safety features explained

New Renault Duster ADAS Level 2 and Safety Features Explained

The new Renault Duster is back in India, and safety is a big part of its return. It brings 17 ADAS features, six airbags and a 5-star BNCAP rating. That sounds great on paper. But not every variant gets the same kit. Some features come on all variants. Some are only for the top trim.

This guide explains the Renault Duster safety features in simple words, so you know exactly what you get and where.

Quick Answer

  • Does the Duster have ADAS Level 2?

Yes. The Duster gets Level 2 ADAS, a first for Renault in India.

  • Which variants get the full 17 ADAS?

Only the Iconic and the Iconic Launch Edition.

  • What is standard on every variant?

Six airbags, ESC, TPMS, seat belt reminders and pedestrian protection.

  • What is the BNCAP rating?

5 stars for adult and child protection. The scores are 30.49 out of 32 and 45.00 out of 49.

What Safety Features Does Every Renault Duster Get?

Every Duster variant, even the base Authentic, comes with six airbags, Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The BNCAP report also lists side head curtain airbags, pedestrian protection and seat belt reminders as standard on all variants. The Duster also has disc brakes on all four wheels.

The base variant also gets hill start assist, which stops the car from rolling back on a slope. The car supports Isofix child seats too. So even if you skip the costly trims, you still get a strong safety base.

What Is ADAS Level 2?

ADAS means advanced driver assistance systems. These use cameras and radar to watch the road around you.

In Level 2, the car can control speed and steering together. For example, it can keep a safe gap from the car ahead and also help you stay in your lane. But you must keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. It is a helper, not a driver.

On Indian roads, faded lane markings or heavy rain can reduce how well these systems work. So always stay alert.

What Are the 17 ADAS Features in the Renault Duster?

Renault groups the 17 features into three parts.

Driving assistance (6 features)

  • Cruise control
  • Speed limiter
  • Adaptive cruise control with stop and go
  • Auto high/low beam
  • Hill start assist
  • Distance warning alert

Safety assistance (6 features)

  • Blind spot warning
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Active emergency braking (urban, pedestrian and cyclist)
  • Lane departure warning
  • Lane keep assist
  • Driver attention alert

Parking assistance (5 features)

  • Rear parking assist
  • Front parking assist
  • Side parking assist
  • Rear view camera
  • 360° around view 3D camera

Here are the ones that matter most in daily driving.

Adaptive cruise control with stop and go: It uses front radar and cameras to keep a set gap from the car ahead. It can brake to a full stop and then speed up again. This is very handy in slow highway traffic.

Active emergency braking: The camera and radar warn you if a crash is near. If you do not react, the car steps in to avoid a hit with a pedestrian, cyclist or vehicle.

Lane keep assist: It gently turns the steering wheel to bring the car back into its lane.

Blind spot warning: It works at speeds above 15 km/h. Warning lights tell you when a vehicle is in your blind spot.

Traffic sign recognition: The front camera and connected map data find the current speed limit. The limit then shows on the driver display.

360° around view 3D camera: Four cameras create a view all around the car. It makes tight parking much easier.

Which Renault Duster Variants Get ADAS?

This is where buyers get confused. The full ADAS suite is not on every variant. Here is a simple breakdown.

VariantSafety and ADAS highlights
AuthenticSix airbags, ESC, TPMS, hill start assist
EvolutionAdds cruise control, speed limiter and rear view camera
TechnoNo ADAS, no front parking sensors and no 360° camera
Techno+Basic ADAS only: blind spot warning, front and side parking assist
IconicAll 17 ADAS features and the 360° camera
Iconic Launch EditionSame features as the Iconic, with Himalayan-inspired styling and yellow accents

So Renault Duster ADAS Level 2 really means the Iconic. The Techno+ is the lowest variant with any ADAS features. But its list is much shorter. Adaptive cruise control and lane keep assist are not part of it.

Features can change by variant, engine and gearbox. Please confirm the final list with your Renault dealer before booking.

Renault Duster BNCAP Rating

The Renault Duster BNCAP rating is 5 stars for both adult and child occupant protection. Bharat NCAP is India’s own crash test programme.

  • Adult occupant protection: 30.49 out of 32
  • Child occupant protection: 45.00 out of 49

The tested variants were the Evolution (1.3L manual), the Techno (1.3L DCT) and the Iconic (1.3L manual). So these results are for the 1.3-litre turbo versions.

Other Safety and Build Highlights

The Duster has 212 mm of ground clearance. The approach angle is 26.9 degrees and the departure angle is 34.7 degrees. This helps you handle bad roads, speed breakers and steep slopes with more confidence.

The Turbo TCe 160 engine makes 163 ps and 280 Nm. That gives you power in hand for safe overtakes. It comes with a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed DCT.

Renault also offers a warranty of up to 7 years or 1,50,000 km, whichever comes first. This includes 3 years of standard warranty and 4 more years under the Renault Forever program. Terms and conditions apply.

Is the Duster Iconic Worth It for ADAS?

If ADAS is the main reason you want the Duster, the Iconic is the one to pick. It is the only trim with the full 17 features and the 360° camera.

If you drive mostly in the city, the Techno+ may be enough. You get blind spot warning and parking help, plus the strong standard safety kit. Check the price gap between the two on Renault’s official website and take a test drive of both. Also compare it with rivals like the Hyundai Creta and Kia Seltos before you decide.
